I went to the Pogo 77 festival last week. It was three days of Pogo, Noise and Hardcore punk bands!! I had seen a lot of these bands before, but they also had a shitload that I hadn't seen before. Of course the band I wanted to see the most was the Discocks!!!
They had some sort of gallery with a lot of photographs and drawings. They were okay, nothing special. I think photographers focus too much on the bands and not enough on the crowd. There were some funny ones though like the one on the far left.
I met the singer of the band Esperanza. That guy was cool, he really liked Spanish punk. I saw that he had Eskorbuto on his jacket which was fucking cool! Usually the only people that appreciate Eskorbuto or any other Spanish bands are people that speak Spanish. Everyone else just dismiss them as just another punk band. They miss out on the great lyrics that go along with the ominous music. But he genuinely liked them, he was even wearing a RIP shirt. Fucking cool!!!! Japanese punk that likes Spanish punk!!
The first band of the fest was the Drunk Bois!! They were awesome, unfortunately It was around 4 pm when the fest started so there weren't a lot of people to Pogo with. They played a lot of the songs I would often listen back in Los Angeles and still do. I recorded their set so I will post some video later. Another band off my list of bands to see!
It sucked that a lot of the bands didn't have any merch. I saw System Fucker for the first time and that shit was badass!!!!!!!!! Fucking Shizuoka Punks!!!I It was crazy and violent! After their set I wanted to get some System Fucker stuff but they didn't have anything. Oh well. I didn't record System Fucker or any other bands after the Drunk Bois because they had three people recording the gigs professionally so I didn't want to waste my time. I just enjoyed it.
Fucking Isterismo was dope!!!! Crazy noise!! Towards the end the bassist started swinging his bass at the crowd, he didn't give a fuck if he hit someone. And then he just dropped it on the ground and walked out. Hahaha
This was Digraphia. They were pretty violent too! The singer had a baseball bat and was swinging it at the crowd hitting the ground and metal railing. Pretty crazy.
I always wanted to take this picture. The view through Asuka's hair! Hahahaha
The last day had the Discocks!!! It was better than the first time I saw them. Everyone was pogoing like crazy. At the end I started yelling at them to play Punk and Proud, and other people joined in. So they did!! Hahaha it was awesome. It was three days of awesome bands for only $35 dollars!!! It was one of the reasons I moved to Japan! Thank you Nori!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Enjoying life in Japan!!! Pictures of punk, people, food, places and other cool stuff from Japan!
